The Operation ToyBox catalog · WS228

The rough patches across WS228 are among its most interesting details. King & Country depicts a Jagdpanther with portions of its Zimmerit coating missing, exposing rust-brown factory undercoat beneath the camouflage. This is an intentionally worn finish, not a pristine vehicle with an accidental paint problem.

A Panther chassis without the turret

The familiar Panther running gear supports a fixed, sloping fighting compartment and a long 88mm gun. The Tank Museum identifies the weapon as the PaK 43 L/71; it should not be confused with the shorter 88mm fitted to the Tiger I simply because both share a caliber.

Removing the turret gives the miniature its continuous wedge-shaped upper body. The gun projects far beyond it, making the vehicle look different from a Panther even before the camouflage and surface texture become visible.

Two people break up the roofline

The release includes two crew figures in open hatches. One raised arm interrupts the otherwise mechanical outline, directing attention toward the men above the armor.

The manufacturer places this interpretation in summer 1944. Its weathering is a sculpted suggestion of service, not documentation of damage suffered by a specifically identified wartime vehicle.

A decade of collecting separates two interpretations

The original announcement looks back to the earlier 2004 Jagdpanther. Collectors comparing WS228 with WS059 can notice different surface treatments, front details and crew arrangements rather than treating the newer code as a simple replacement.

That comparison is why this version deserves a separate catalog entry. The chipped coating and occupied hatches give it a particular identity within the much larger family of German armored subjects.

For a loose example, photographs of both sides are especially useful: intentional exposed patches should correspond to the reference finish, while the two crew figures should be accounted for individually.

Release record and collecting notes

Sager’s archived WS228 product record lists a release date of July 2013 and a retirement date of September 2016. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
