The Operation ToyBox catalog · WS188

The dark uniform, youth armband and rifle across the body distinguish WS188 from the adult camouflage-clad trooper beside whom the manufacturer places him. He is a young Hitler Youth guard in the late-war checkpoint group.

The youth organization is part of the subject

A surviving Hitler Youth jacket in the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum illustrates how uniform and insignia expressed the organization’s regimented character. The museum places that clothing within the Nazi program of racial and political indoctrination.

The miniature’s armband therefore identifies more than a colorful accessory. It connects the young figure with an organization that prepared children for service to the regime.

The weapon is large against the body

The rifle forms a broad diagonal across the front, while the cap and dark clothing keep the upper silhouette compact. Lighter socks and brown footwear add small contrasts near the base.

The saved photograph makes the figure’s age contrast with WS187 particularly clear. The two releases are meant to interact, but they represent different kinds of participant at the control point.

Support for the man giving the order

King & Country explicitly describes the boy as providing backup for the SS trooper. WS187’s raised hand can direct the scene while WS188 stands slightly behind or to the side with his rifle.

The product record does not name him or specify an exact age. The catalog keeps the identification at the supported level: a Hitler Youth rifleman within the manufacturer’s final-war grouping.

Why this figure changes the scene

Adding a young guard alters the meaning of a checkpoint display. It brings the regime’s use of youth into view alongside military authority and retreat.

WS188 is most informative when that context remains attached to the sculpt. The dark uniform, armband and carried rifle provide the visible evidence, while the relationship with WS187 gives the pose its immediate role.

Release record and collecting notes

Sager’s archived WS188 product record lists a release date of May 2011 and a retirement date of March 2014. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
