The Operation ToyBox catalog · WS165
The broad muzzle brake gives WS165 a distinctive front profile, but the more interesting story lies behind it: a French field-gun design mounted on a German anti-tank carriage. Three camouflaged crewmen turn that hybrid weapon into an active miniature scene.

Two national design histories in one release
The manufacturer identifies the combination as the French 75 mm Model 1897 gun with a PaK 38 carriage. A November 1944 U.S. War Department Intelligence Bulletin describes the same adaptation, including its prominent muzzle brake.
The wartime report places it among captured weapons used by Germany. That makes WS165 a useful example of how equipment histories cross national boundaries: the origin of a gun and the army operating it are different parts of its identity.
The crew gives the model several viewpoints
One man watches through binoculars to the left, another works close to the shield and a third leans toward the rear of the gun. Their different postures distribute attention around the equipment.
The shield, wheels and long trails create a much wider ground footprint than the barrel alone suggests. A rear-quarter view reveals the crew’s relationship to those parts, while a front view emphasizes the muzzle and shield.
Keep the release attribution in proportion
The sales text associates the model with the Hitlerjugend division before Normandy. Its stronger claim about the weapon’s importance within that division would require a detailed equipment return to establish independently.
The set can still be documented clearly as King & Country’s three-man, camouflaged-crew interpretation of a PaK 97/38. The confirmed design history is interesting enough without turning an unverified issue claim into a settled statistic.
The towing vehicle is a separate subject
The announcement notes compatibility with a Raupenschlepper. That tractor is not part of the WS165 gun-and-crew release.
For a display, the gun can stand as a complete working group or form one stage in a larger transport scene. Its distinctive muzzle, mixed design ancestry and three interacting crew figures give the artillery section a subject with more history than a generic German gun title conveys.
Release record and collecting notes
Sager’s archived WS165 product record lists a release date of September 2010 and a retirement date of June 2013. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
