The Operation ToyBox catalog · WS135

The briefcase beside the conference table gives this otherwise formal meeting its tension. WS135 depicts Claus von Stauffenberg at Hitler’s headquarters during the attempted assassination of 20 July 1944.

A historical scene built around one object

Five figures surround a large table carrying two printed maps. The release identifies Hitler, Wilhelm Keitel, Günther Korten, Stauffenberg and an unnamed senior SS officer.

The table provides the shared focus, while the briefcase carries the meaning of the scene. A display angle that conceals Stauffenberg’s case would lose the detail that explains the title.

The bomb was part of a larger attempt to overthrow the regime

The Deutsches Historisches Museum’s retrospective describes military and civilian participants preparing a change of government. Their motives differed, and opposition to Hitler did not mean that they all shared the same democratic vision.

Hitler survived the explosion. Stauffenberg and three fellow conspirators were shot in Berlin during the following night. That outcome makes the miniature a representation of an attempted turning point, not a successful end to the Nazi dictatorship.

A 2009 anniversary release

King & Country introduced the set for the event’s sixty-fifth anniversary, announcing 888 examples. The full designation is WS135(SL).

For a complete visual record, show all five figures, the table and both printed maps. Their arrangement can evoke the conference, but the sculpture remains a later interpretation rather than a photograph of every person’s exact position.

This set expands the collection beyond combat poses. It invites a closer look at conspiracy, responsibility and the possibilities that briefly appeared around a headquarters table in July 1944.

Release record and collecting notes

Sager’s archived WS135 product record lists a release date of July 2009. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
