The Operation ToyBox catalog · WS073

The open compartment of WS073 puts three crew figures on view around a 10.5cm howitzer. Beneath the German conversion sits a French Hotchkiss tank chassis, giving the release a history that crosses national boundaries.

The vehicle’s origins remain visible

The archived announcement describes the adaptation of a captured French tank chassis for German service. The compact running gear below and tall open superstructure above create a noticeably different silhouette from a purpose-built turreted tank.

The French category records that vehicle origin; the German and Wehrmacht categories describe its represented service. Both are useful ways to find this subject in a collection.

Read the unit attribution carefully

The manufacturer’s description assigns Panzer Lehr markings and Normandy camouflage to this model. That is a statement about the release’s intended identity. It should not be treated as independent evidence that every historical vehicle of this conversion served with that division.

The WS series overview supplies the wider campaign setting. This particular vehicle also demonstrates that the WS prefix contains Wehrmacht subjects alongside Waffen-SS releases.

The open top rewards a closer look

The three full crew figures rise above the compartment at different heights. Their poses help break up the flat armour panels, while the long barrel carries the eye forward.

A slightly elevated display position reveals more of the men and the space around the gun. Viewed only at track level, much of that interaction disappears behind the side armour.

Why it belongs in a vehicle retrospective

WS073 introduces adaptation and reuse into a shelf otherwise dominated by familiar German tank names. Its interest lies in the visible combination of a compact French chassis, German weapon and open crew space. Keeping those layers distinct produces a more informative record than calling it simply another German assault gun.

Release record and collecting notes

Sager’s archived WS073 product record lists a release date of July 2006 and a retirement date of March 2008. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
