The Operation ToyBox catalog · WS066

WS066 places a small wheeled antitank gun beside a kneeling man with a shoulder weapon. The oversized object at the gun’s muzzle is the feature that makes this release particularly easy to misdescribe.

The old description mixes up two systems

The archived sales copy calls the gun a 37mm weapon modified to fire a Panzerfaust rocket. That wording is misleading. A contemporary 1943 Allied intelligence manual on the 3.7cm PaK illustrates an oversized stick bomb at the muzzle, matching the distinctive arrangement represented here.

The separate kneeling soldier carries a Panzerfaust. These are different weapons, even though the miniature groups them around the same antitank subject. The catalog preserves the release title while correcting that distinction.

Small gun, busy composition

Two figures attend the gun, and the third kneels alongside it. The wheels and shield occupy the middle height of the scene, while the standing crewman rises above them.

The weapon at the muzzle projects a long way beyond the carriage. In a photograph of a loose example, that detail should be visible rather than cropped off or hidden behind a figure.

A useful comparison within the collection

Placed near a much larger gun such as WS057’s 88mm, this release makes the difference in scale immediately apparent. It also shows why a catalog needs more precise labels than simply German artillery.

The source identifies the men as Volksgrenadiers, so the entry includes Wehrmacht as well as the manufacturer’s WS series category. Series prefixes describe how King & Country organized releases; they do not always identify the actual service of every figure.

That combination of an unusual gun configuration and a correctable catalog error gives WS066 a distinct place in the historical retrospective.

Release record and collecting notes

Sager’s archived WS066 product record lists a release date of March 2005 and a retirement date of November 2007. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
