The Operation ToyBox catalog · WH049

WH049 puts a compact anti-tank weapon above an open half-track body. The front wheels, rear tracks and angular armour identify the carrier, while the small mounted gun explains why this is a separate variant.

Why the weapon is more unusual than it looks

The 2.8cm schwere Panzerbüchse 41 belonged to the tapered-bore family. A November 1944 U.S. Intelligence Bulletin describes the 28/20mm weapon and the light, high-velocity projectiles used by this class.

The same contemporary report discusses the dependence on tungsten and limitations that complicated the idea. That makes this a story of trade-offs, rather than a simple claim that a small weapon was a miracle solution.

The combination is documented

The wartime Handbook on German Military Forces lists a 2.8cm weapon mounted on the Sd.Kfz. 250 half-track. The release’s carrier-and-gun combination therefore has a clear historical basis.

The model photograph shows the mounting and open compartment especially well from above the front corner.

Look beyond the familiar half-track shape

A collection containing several Sd.Kfz. 250 variants can use WH049 to explore how equipment changed the role of a small armoured carrier. The weapon and mounting are the important identifiers, not just the general hull.

Give the antenna and projecting barrel enough room against the background so they do not disappear among taller figures.

Why this variant belongs separately

WH049 adds an unusual equipment combination to the German vehicle catalog. Record its complete designation and compare the mounting with the saved image when identifying an example; “German half-track” leaves too much of this release unexplained.

Release record and collecting notes

Sager’s archived WH049 product record lists a release date of May 2016 and a retirement date of May 2018. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
