King & Country WH040 Officer with Binoculars: Observation Before the Order

Observation in the historical background

A January 1944 U.S. account of German infantry deployment describes commanders reconnoitring ground and positions during an advance. It is a wartime assessment, rather than a biography for this anonymous officer.

For the collector, it supplies a reason to look beyond the binoculars as an accessory. The object represents an officer trying to understand the ground and activity around him.

Choose what he is looking toward

The figure can face an open landscape, infantry or a vehicle crew. A small change in orientation changes the scene’s implied focus without altering the miniature itself.

Keep the hands and binoculars unobstructed. They identify the activity more reliably than the general appearance of the uniform alone.

Why this officer belongs beside the action figures

WH040 adds observation to a sequence that also includes directing, running and firing. It helps a collection show several kinds of military work rather than one repeated action. The specific code is useful when distinguishing it from other German binocular figures in different uniforms or poses.

Release record and collecting notes

Sager’s archived WH040 product record lists a release date of November 2015 and a retirement date of April 2022. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
