King & Country · Napoleonic · NA039

The officer’s extended sword points in the same direction as his moving horse. NA039 uses that simple alignment to make command visible, with green clothing and a crested helmet placing the figure firmly within the French dragoon group.

King & Country French Dragoon Officer
King & Country catalog photograph, saved in the OTB media library. Figure identification: Sager’s Soldiers. Observations refer to the pictured example.

Look past the bright helmet

The helmet crest and trailing hair create height, but the horse and sword carry the motion. The saved image shows a dark mount, a green saddlecloth and pale breeches. The officer’s upper body turns slightly as he directs the blade outward. That relationship is more interesting than treating the figure as a static uniform plate: he appears to be communicating with other riders while moving.

Build the group around the gesture

Place the officer where other dragoons can plausibly respond to him. NA040’s standard and NA043’s musician provide different means of maintaining identity and communication. They need not sit in a straight decorative line. A slight stagger makes the three roles easier to read and gives the horses room. Keep the sword’s direction clear of a friendly rider’s head or an immediately adjacent wall.

Inspect the moving parts of the silhouette

The sword, reins, crest and horse’s supporting legs are the important condition points. Ask for a full side view, including the blade tip and tail, plus a photograph of the base attachment. Dark horses can conceal repairs under poor lighting. Compare the saddlecloth and rider’s pose with the reference rather than assuming any green-coated French cavalry figure is NA039. The set’s appeal depends on the clean line from the officer’s shoulder through the sword into the space ahead.
