The Operation ToyBox catalog · DD418
The Sten-carrying figure represents a named soldier whose D-Day story extended beyond a single charge. DD418 portrays Company Sergeant Major Stanley Hollis of the Green Howards.

His Victoria Cross recognized more than one action
The Green Howards Museum’s account records Hollis landing on Gold Beach on 6 June 1944 and attacking a German pillbox. Later that day, he went back under fire to enable two trapped Bren gunners to withdraw.
He received the only Victoria Cross awarded for actions on D-Day. King George VI presented the decoration on 10 October 1944.
The man had a history before the medal
The museum records his service with the regiment from 1939, the evacuation from Dunkirk and the subsequent North African and Sicilian campaigns. The Normandy action came after several years of wartime experience.
That background is more revealing than treating Hollis as a character who appears only for one famous day.
A portrait within a regimental collection
King & Country released the figure in June 2026 alongside the Gold Beach subjects. The Sten and forward posture connect him visually with the infantry, while the named identity distinguishes him from the anonymous figures.
A display can place him with the other Green Howards without claiming to reproduce the exact arrangement of men at either of his documented actions.
What gives the figure its place
The return for the trapped men gives this story a human center. The miniature can lead a reader from a recognizable weapon and pose to the documented responsibility Hollis showed toward others.
Keep that history with the figure when comparing or displaying it; the VC suffix is the beginning of the story rather than its entire explanation.
Release record and collecting notes
Sager’s archived DD418 product record lists a release date of June 2026. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
