The Operation ToyBox catalog · DD397

Three soldiers move together, with a sergeant encouraging a rifleman as a Bren gunner provides support. DD397 translates the movement of a memorial sculpture into a small painted group.

The inspiration is a modern act of remembrance

King & Country identifies the source as David Williams-Ellis’s sculpture at the British Normandy Memorial. The memorial’s own account of its site inauguration names the sculptor and places the work overlooking Gold Beach at Ver-sur-Mer.

This makes the set a representation of a commemorative artwork as well as a wartime infantry subject. It should not be mistaken for a literal record of three named men photographed together on D-Day.

Three roles, one direction

The Sten-carrying sergeant supplies the encouraging gesture. The rifleman’s forward movement carries it onward, while the Bren gunner gives the group a lower supporting position.

Keep the three close enough for their interaction to remain legible. Widely separating them would lose much of the shared movement that explains the memorial connection.

A link between collecting and remembrance

The July 2026 release belongs with the Gold Beach figures representing the Green Howards. A simple base can keep attention on the poses without attempting to reproduce the full memorial site.

The three-person set should also remain distinct from individual Gold Beach releases with similar weapons. Its complete composition is part of its identity.

DD397 earns its place through this double perspective: infantry advancing in 1944, and a later generation choosing how to remember that advance through sculpture. The miniature invites the reader to look beyond the shelf toward the memorial that inspired it.

Release record and collecting notes

Sager’s archived DD397 product record lists a release date of July 2026. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
