King & Country DD330 Philippe Kieffer: The Naval Officer Behind the French Green Berets

A life that did not begin in the barracks

The Ordre de la Libération’s biography records Kieffer’s birth in Haiti and his commercial education before the wartime naval career for which he became known. His path to commanding troops was not that of a lifelong regular combat officer.

That background adds an unexpected dimension to the familiar green-beret portrait.

The rank in the old title belongs later

The archived product title calls him a capitaine de frégate. His official biography dates that reserve promotion to 1954, so it should not be silently treated as his rank on D-Day.

This catalog uses his name in the headline and keeps that chronological distinction in the description.

History also reached the cinema

Kieffer later advised the production of The Longest Day, another detail recorded in his official biography. That makes him a particularly interesting subject within a collection that also explores how films depict Normandy.

DD330 supplies a named leader for the separately sold French commando groups. The Thompson, beret and advancing gesture make the figure readable, while the biography provides a richer story than the original short sales description alone.

Release record and collecting notes

Sager’s archived DD330 product record lists a release date of September 2019. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
