King & Country DD315-1 D-Day Planning Group — Special Set No. 1: The Short Brown Jacket Identifies This Combination

The board changes the character of the display

Routes across the Channel and the labeled coast occupy much of the reference image. The figures are gathered in front of a planning object rather than placed beside a vehicle or on a battlefield base.

That gives the group a headquarters character. The miniature arrangement is not evidence that the five men stood in exactly these positions for a documented briefing.

The added figure is an existing portrait

DD284 is also cataloged separately. A collector comparing the promotional set should therefore identify the whole combination, not assume that any loose Eisenhower portrait proves the rest of the set is complete.

The short jacket and contrasting trousers are the easiest visual checks. DD315-2 and DD315-3 use different Eisenhower uniform versions with the same broad planning-group idea.

Keep the people and map readable together

Stagger the figures slightly so they do not hide all the coastal detail. The board can remain a backdrop while the uniforms and faces stay individually visible.

DD315-1 belongs in the catalog as a genuine promotional combination. Its identity depends on both the shared planning group and the specific DD284 addition, giving the suffix a concrete meaning for collectors.

Release record and collecting notes

Sager’s archived DD315-1 product record lists a release date of May 2018 and a retirement date of June 2018. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
