The Operation ToyBox catalog · DD286-2

The low crouch is the first thing to notice in DD286-2; the 101st Airborne insignia is the detail that fixes its catalog identity. Together they make a compact counterpart to the standing and firing paratroopers in the same release sequence.

The weapon stays within the body’s outline

The Thompson is held close, with its barrel angled down and the hands gathered in front. The pose avoids the long horizontal line of a fully extended firing figure.

That gives the helmet and shoulders more visual weight. The pack and equipment around the torso reinforce the sense of a man lowering himself while still carrying a substantial load.

Similar sculpt, different divisional entry

DD286-1 is the 82nd Airborne counterpart. The two releases should be distinguished through their full codes and insignia, rather than cataloged as one generic crouching American soldier.

The archived description supplies no personal name or documented encounter. This leaves room for the figure within an airborne display while keeping the historical claim at the level the release actually supports.

Use the low height deliberately

A standing figure can look outward above him, while a small rise in the ground can explain why he has reduced his height. Keep enough space around the hands that the Thompson remains easy to identify.

The figure also works as an individual study. Seen from a low angle, the face emerges beneath the helmet and the compression of the legs becomes more apparent than in an overhead view.

One collection, several kinds of movement

DD270-2 waits upright with jump equipment. DD285-2 presents a two-man action group. DD286-2 supplies another physical position, helping the 101st selection avoid a uniform row of standing men.

The appeal is modest but specific: a low body, a close-held weapon and the division’s identifying patch. Those details make this release useful both as a companion figure and as a distinct entry in the DD airborne catalog.

Release record and collecting notes

Sager’s archived DD286-2 product record lists a release date of June 2016 and a retirement date of May 2023. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
