The Operation ToyBox catalog · DD286-1

DD286-1 folds the paratrooper down into a compact crouch. The Thompson stays close to his body, while the helmet, shoulders and equipment form a much lower outline than the standing airborne figures nearby.

The crouch changes the emphasis

The bent legs gather the figure around the base. His hands control the weapon in front, and the carried equipment remains prominent around the torso rather than being stretched out by a running pose.

This is a useful contrast to DD250’s upright firing gunner. Both carry Thompsons, but their height and body language produce very different small compositions.

The 82nd version has its own code

The release record identifies DD286-1 with the 82nd Airborne. The corresponding DD286-2 figure represents the 101st Airborne, making the shoulder marking and complete suffix important identification details.

The pose itself does not establish a named soldier or a particular location. The miniature’s historical subject is the equipped airborne gunner, presented in a low, ready position.

Let the surrounding ground explain the height

A modest bank or low wall can give the crouch an understandable setting. The figure should remain visible above or beside it, with the face and weapon still readable.

Too much scenery can hide the very reason to choose a low pose. A collector does not need a large landscape to show the contrast between this man and a standing companion.

A small figure that changes a larger group

DD285-1’s covering-fire pair adds higher bodies and a radio antenna. DD286-1 can sit nearby at a lower level, creating variety without repeating another upright weapon line.

In photographs, compare the complete Thompson outline, hands and base. A close crop of the helmet and chest can conceal how the legs define this particular sculpt.

The figure belongs in the airborne sequence because it changes the collection’s posture. Its compactness makes equipment, balance and attention visible in a way that a standing rifleman cannot.

Release record and collecting notes

Sager’s archived DD286-1 product record lists a release date of June 2016 and a retirement date of June 2020. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
