The Operation ToyBox catalog · DD249
The BAR lies across this paratrooper’s shoulder while he drinks from a small cup. DD249 combines one of the larger weapons in the airborne figure group with one of its most ordinary gestures, making the pause as visible as the equipment.

The cup changes where you look
The gun’s long outline runs behind the helmet and across the shoulders. Beneath it, the man lowers his face toward the drink, gathering the attention into a much smaller area.
The contrast is the pleasure of the sculpt. A weapon that would dominate a firing pose becomes something being carried while its owner attends to another need. His brown boots, web equipment and camouflaged helmet keep the airborne appearance clear.
The original description jokes about whether the cup contains water or wine. The model does not identify the contents, so the raised drink is the reliable detail to record.
The BAR belongs to a longer equipment story
The National Army Museum’s Browning Automatic Rifle record places the weapon’s origins in the First World War and its continuing use in the Second. DD249 shows that familiar equipment as part of a soldier’s carried load rather than in an isolated technical display.
The figure is not assigned to a named encounter. Its historical subject is the equipped paratrooper during a lull, with the rifle and the act of drinking sharing the composition.
A standing companion for the seated gunner
DD248 sits on the ground with a Thompson. Put the two at different angles and they suggest a brief pause shared by men with different weapons, rather than a row of identical resting poses.
Allow space above and beside the BAR so it does not merge with a nearby branch or another soldier’s helmet. A full-length photograph is useful for checking the weapon’s complete outline and the smaller cup.
DD249 adds an approachable moment to the airborne collection. The equipment remains distinctive, but the person carrying it gets the viewer’s attention.
Release record and collecting notes
Sager’s archived DD249 product record lists a release date of March 2015 and a retirement date of April 2019. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
