The Operation ToyBox catalog · DD238
Both occupants of DD238 remain in the canoe, their paddles extending beyond its narrow sides. The repeated seated poses create a sense of shared effort, while the long dark hull keeps the entire scene close to the water.

The paddles widen a very narrow craft
The boat itself has a slim footprint, but the projecting blades reach well beyond it. The two men’s pale straps and brown clothing stand out against the dark sides.
Viewed from a low angle, the arrangement reads as a single moving unit. A higher view reveals how the separate paddles and occupants divide the length of the craft.
A real raid shows the demands of the journey
The Royal Navy’s account of the 1942 Frankton raid records five two-man canoes launched near the Gironde and only two survivors from the ten Royal Marines who set out. The operation’s approach by water was a demanding part of the mission.
DD238 is not identified as a portrait of one of those crews. Frankton provides historical context for the canoe-raiding subject, while the miniature remains the manufacturer’s anonymous two-man group.
Before the landing in DD237
The companion release On the Enemy Coast shows a man beginning to get out. Here the action is still entirely afloat, so a small gap of water between the boat and the shore can give the set a different mood.
The contrast is worth preserving if the two are displayed together. One represents movement toward a destination; the other concentrates on the first change from boat to land.
Let the water stay simple
A restrained surface gives the paddles room to be seen. Large waves or busy scenery can overwhelm the small crew and hide the hull’s clean outline.
DD238 adds a compact maritime subject to a collection often dominated by vehicles on roads or soldiers on foot. Its interest comes from the coordination of the two men and the long, exposed journey implied by their small craft.
Release record and collecting notes
Sager’s archived DD238 product record lists a release date of June 2014. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
