The Operation ToyBox catalog · DD226

The large cylindrical jacket around the gun barrel is DD226’s most conspicuous feature. The seated American gunner leans forward behind it, with low sandbags and a tripod creating a complete little position.

A different Browning outline

The archived release identifies a heavier .30-calibre machine gun. Its broad jacket has the recognizable appearance of a water-cooled Browning, rather than the perforated barrel shroud seen on familiar air-cooled versions.

The 1944 U.S. Standard Ordnance Items Catalog describes the M1917A1 as a water-cooled development of the First World War M1917. That contemporary reference helps explain the substantial shape represented here.

The base is part of the composition

The gunner sits behind a low sandbag arrangement rather than standing on a plain oval base. The tripod extends forward, giving the scene a triangular footprint.

The helmet’s light attachment is also a visible detail in the saved photograph. Together with the leaning body, it gives the man a different appearance from the simpler rifle figures nearby.

A ground position beside a mobile vehicle

King & Country introduced the figure in support of the M20 reconnaissance vehicle. Placing the two nearby creates a contrast between a wheeled car and a more settled infantry position.

The M20 is not included with DD226. The gunner and his weapon already form a self-contained subject without the vehicle.

Keep the front of the tripod visible

A view from slightly above shows the seating, sandbags and mount together. A low scenic wall can hide the very details that make this more than a generic machine-gunner figure.

DD226 belongs in the catalog through that combination of water-cooled weapon shape, seated posture and compact prepared position. It adds another texture and height to an American infantry display.

Release record and collecting notes

Sager’s archived DD226 product record lists a release date of April 2014 and a retirement date of June 2020. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
