The Operation ToyBox catalog · DD191
The Thompson stretches across DD191’s chest, creating a long horizontal line above a wide stance. Pale webbing and the wooden stock contrast with the darker weapon and brown uniform.

The familiar weapon in a British setting
The archived release identifies a commando sergeant firing a Thompson, the weapon widely nicknamed the Tommy gun. The American origin of the design does not change the British identity of the soldier represented.
Within this group, the Thompson also supplies a visual alternative to the longer Lee-Enfield rifles of DD193 and DD194. Even when the figures share similar clothing, their outlines remain different.
Raids were joint undertakings
The Royal Museums Greenwich account of Operation Chariot connects the commandos with the naval force used at Saint-Nazaire in March 1942. The operation targeted the port’s dry-dock facilities and came at heavy human cost.
That is historical context for the commando subject, not an identification of DD191 as a known man at Saint-Nazaire. The original set record does not name his unit or operation.
A clear shoulder line
The raised arms bring the viewer’s eye directly to the weapon. The bent forward leg and braced rear leg then return attention to the ground, giving the figure a stable triangular arrangement.
A front-quarter angle shows both the face and the Thompson’s length. Directly along the barrel, most of the weapon’s distinctive shape disappears.
Using him in a small group
The sergeant works well beside a figure who is doing something different, such as DD195’s radio operator. That contrast makes the scene feel like several tasks happening together rather than a row of identical firing poses.
For the collection, the release adds a recognizable commando weapon and an upright action stance. The individual figure remains the complete set; surrounding riflemen and scenery are separate additions.
Release record and collecting notes
Sager’s archived DD191 product record lists a release date of July 2013 and a retirement date of September 2020. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
