The Operation ToyBox catalog · DD123

DD123 suspends two 82nd Airborne troopers beneath open parachutes. The long lines between men and canopies change the scale of the display, turning the space above the figures into part of the subject.

The release’s Normandy setting

The archived description places the two troopers near Sainte-Mère-Église on 6 June 1944. The US Army’s D-Day history connects the airborne landing with securing routes inland and hindering German reinforcement of the beach defences.

The two figures are representative troopers. The source does not name them as particular participants or identify either as John Steele.

The parachutes are central to the set

The reference image shows two canopies with suspension lines and different figures beneath. Their considerable vertical spread distinguishes the release from airborne soldiers already on the ground.

A loose trooper alone would not preserve that original presentation.

Think about the whole outline

The open canopy needs space around it, while the figure below remains relatively small. A clear background helps the lines remain visible rather than disappearing into shelves or busy scenery.

The arrangement also invites a different viewing height from a conventional ground-level infantry group.

Why this release belongs in the catalog

DD123 represents the descent itself, a short but essential stage between the aircraft and the ground campaign. It adds a vertical dimension to a range more often built around men standing on bases.

Keep both troopers, canopies and line arrangements documented together when comparing an example with the original reference.

Release record and collecting notes

Sager’s archived DD123 product record lists a release date of March 2010 and a retirement date of December 2011. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
