The Operation ToyBox catalog · DD082
DD082 combines a crouching officer, raised binoculars and an upright rifle. The result is a compact command figure whose attention extends beyond the edge of his base.
Looking before moving
The archived description identifies an 82nd Airborne officer observing ahead. The saved photograph shows one knee close to the ground and the other raised, with the weapon kept beside the body.
The binoculars make this a different kind of leadership pose from an officer pointing or brandishing a pistol. He is gathering a view of the ground rather than visibly issuing an order.
Normandy was a problem of orientation
Cloud and antiaircraft fire scattered the American airborne drops. Men often had to establish where they were and form useful groups after landing, as the National WWII Museum explains.
That gives an anonymous observer an interesting historical setting. It does not identify DD082 as an actual officer at a specific crossroads, but it helps explain why looking and finding direction belong in the airborne story.
A figure with two strong lines
The rifle rises vertically while the binoculars point outward. Those shapes remain readable if the figure is viewed slightly from the front quarter.
A tall wall placed directly in front would hide the hands and face, the very details that explain the activity.
Why the officer adds variety
DD083 and DD084 supply aimed-firing poses from the same release group. DD082 adds observation and leadership, allowing a small collection to include different activities without changing the overall airborne subject.
Release record and collecting notes
Sager’s archived DD082 product record lists a release date of June 2007 and a retirement date of June 2009. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
