The Operation ToyBox catalog · DD035
The first thing you notice about DD035 is the cluster of four gun barrels. The second is how much of the vehicle exists to carry and support them. King & Country’s M16 Quad .50 half-track turns a familiar American vehicle shape into something with a very different presence on the shelf.

Meet the M16
The real M16 Multiple Gun Motor Carriage combined a half-track with a powered mount carrying four .50-caliber Browning machine guns. It was an anti-aircraft vehicle, providing mobile protection against air attack. The American Heritage Museum’s collection identifies the M16 in that role, and Armourgeddon’s account of its restored example describes the quad mount and the folding hull panels that gave the guns room to move.
For a collector, that purpose is the important detail. A troop carrier suggests men arriving somewhere. The M16 suggests the need to protect them while they travel, assemble, or hold a position. It expands the story of a vehicle collection beyond transport and tank combat.
Reading the set image
DD035’s catalog photograph offers a good three-quarter view of the arrangement. The four barrels project from the rear fighting compartment, the driver is visible at the front, and another soldier stands beside the vehicle. White stars, external stowage, and the contrast between front wheels and rear tracks make the outline easy to recognize.
The standing figure is especially useful visually. He gives the half-track a sense of scale and draws attention toward the crew compartment. When arranging the model, leave room beside the hull for that figure to remain part of the composition rather than disappearing behind another vehicle.
What a half-track adds to the shelf
DD035 makes an engaging comparison with the DD009 M3 Halftrack: similar vehicle families, different jobs. Looking from the passenger space of a transport to the gun mount of an air-defense vehicle makes the adaptation immediately understandable. It is the kind of comparison that can interest someone who does not already know every model number.
For a small scene, try a road halt with the vehicle positioned at an angle. A restrained base keeps the unusual gun arrangement visible. If you choose a busier convoy setting, give the M16 enough separation that it does not read as just another truck in the line.
The detail that deserves the closest photograph
On a retired example, start with the quad mount. Ask to see all four barrels clearly, then look for bends, breaks, repairs, or missing fittings. Follow with photographs of the front wheels, track assemblies, crew positions, and the separate standing figure. Avoid assuming that a moving-looking component is intended to move; ask the seller before trying to reposition delicate parts.
Check the sale’s actual contents against the reference image. Auction and marketplace listings sometimes describe an incomplete model, substitute packaging, or use a piece count that includes loose figures in a different way. A clear set of photographs is more useful than the headline alone.
Why it belongs in the catalog
DD035 has an immediately recognizable silhouette, but its lasting interest is the job behind the shape. It makes air defense visible in a collection otherwise dominated by infantry and tanks. The vehicle, gun mount, and crew give you several things to look at—and a good reason to explain how they fit together.
When comparing available examples, weigh completeness, condition, and the quality of the seller’s photographs alongside the asking price. A retired label tells you about production status; it does not by itself establish a fair market value.
