King & Country · Battle of the Bulge · BBG019
BBG019 German Medics Set contains a wounded man on a stretcher, with a medic and another soldier carrying him. The bearer in camouflage bends into the work, while the medic’s white helmet and red-cross marking make his role visible. The casualty is raised enough for the viewer to see his upper body rather than only a covered shape.
In the set: A medic and a soldier carrying a wounded man on a stretcher: three figures in total.

From the battlefield to an aid station
German casualty evacuation passed through successive stages. The US Army’s 1945 handbook describes stretcher bearers taking men who could not walk to battalion aid stations, with further collection and treatment behind them. The action represented here belongs to that first movement out of danger, before a casualty reached more substantial medical facilities.
The two bearers are deliberately different. Their clothing, posture and helmet treatment give each end of the stretcher its own character. Viewed from the side, the wounded man links them visually. The group can fit into a road or village scene without requiring another armed figure to explain what is happening.
Review
The variation between the bearers makes this an engaging medical subject. The bent figure gives the carrying action a sense of effort, and the medic remains easy to identify from the reference photographs. It also fills a different role from BBG infantry groups: the attention is on getting a man away from the fighting. Three figures and the stretcher form a complete small scene, with a clear direction of travel.
