The Operation ToyBox catalog · AL099
AL099 supplies a restful shape within the 2017 AL editions. In the saved reference photograph, the saddled horse lowers its head toward the ground, its equipment still in place while the rider is absent.
A familiar role, a separate edition
The release announcement places the horse in the centenary group that revisited earlier subjects with changed colours. That makes AL099 a distinct catalog record, even though its display role overlaps the earlier standing-horse releases.
The lowered head is especially useful when arranging a camp scene. It brings the viewer’s attention down toward the base and gives nearby standing figures a different shape to relate to. The saddle and carried equipment keep the animal connected to mounted service even without a rider in view.
Use the pose before adding a story
I would avoid assigning the horse a specific mood from the pose alone. It is enough to describe what is visible: head down, rider absent, equipment still carried. A resting or feeding setting can then be a collecting interpretation rather than a claim about an individual historical animal.
Wartime collections contain many studies of animals at rest as well as in action. The Australian War Memorial’s resource on animals in war provides a broad route into those everyday subjects.
Why another standing horse can be worthwhile
For someone building a camp, variety among the mounts helps avoid a repeated pattern. AL099 can sit near the dismounted figures or form a small group with AL100, whose head and body position create a different outline.
The collecting distinction is the combination of pose, finish and release code. Compare those features before treating an unboxed standing horse as interchangeable with an earlier edition. A supporting subject deserves the same catalog precision as a tank or a named officer.
Release record and collecting notes
Sager’s archived AL099 product record lists October 2017 as the release date and September 2019 as the retirement date. Those are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
