The Operation ToyBox catalog · AL094
AL094 belongs to the AL range’s 2017 return to some of its earlier subjects. The mounted officer rides forward with his service revolver raised, bringing a familiar command image to collectors who may have missed the first releases.
The horse colour is part of the identity
The product announcement explains that the centenary editions changed the individual mounts’ colours to distinguish them from the earlier versions. That is useful catalog information rather than a minor decorative footnote. When comparing similar mounted officers, the exact code and the horse photograph should be considered together.
AL094 therefore deserves its own article and inventory entry. Calling it simply an early officer reissue can conceal the edition distinction that matters to someone trying to assemble a particular group.
A centenary release, a much older subject
The edition marked one hundred years since the 1917 charge at Beersheba. The Australian War Memorial’s centenary display offers a separate example of how that anniversary brought renewed attention to the campaign.
The miniature is a representative officer, rather than an identified portrait of one named leader. The anniversary explains the release context, while the figure’s pose supplies the collecting appeal.
Make the raised revolver visible
The short weapon gives this rider a different outline from the long rifle-and-bayonet subjects. I would place him where his arm can be seen against a simple background, with nearby mounted figures slightly staggered.
For a newer collection, AL094 can act as the command focus of a small mounted group. For a collection containing early releases, it offers a comparison in edition and finish. In either case, the attraction is greater when the article records what changed, rather than treating every similar officer-and-horse combination as the same set.
Release record and collecting notes
Sager’s archived AL094 product record lists October 2017 as the release date and July 2021 as the retirement date. Those are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
