The Operation ToyBox catalog · AL066

AL066 makes an immediate impression through the horse as much as the rider. The mount rears while the trooper extends a bayonet in his hand, creating a tall, unsettled shape that stands apart from the lower forward movement of many AL charging figures.

The horse changes the action

The reference photograph shows the lifted forelegs and raised head, with the rider’s weapon held away from his body. The product description identifies a fighting trooper, but the pose itself adds the sense of a close encounter and an animal reacting within it.

I would give this figure more headroom and space than a conventional mounted rider. The upper silhouette is the main visual feature, and a nearby flag or another raised weapon can easily obscure it.

A bayonet in the hand

The hand-held bayonet connects the miniature with the remembered image of the Light Horse at Beersheba. The Australian War Memorial’s retrospective describes riders using bayonets during the mounted assault. AL066 remains a representative action subject rather than an identified portrait of one of those men.

That distinction leaves the collector free to enjoy the sculpt’s drama without inventing a specific incident. The animal’s movement and the rider’s gesture already supply a strong story.

A centrepiece that needs restraint around it

A rearing horse can dominate a small display. I would use AL066 as a focal figure, with lower subjects around it and a clear view of the base and supporting legs. A tightly packed cluster can make the action difficult to understand.

The release earns its place by changing the mounted collection’s height and energy. It can suggest the confusion of a close encounter while reminding the viewer that horse and rider form a partnership in motion, with both contributing to the shape of the scene.

Release record and collecting notes

Sager’s archived AL066 product record lists July 2014 as the release date and July 2021 as the retirement date. Those are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
