The Operation ToyBox catalog · AL038(B)
The rider’s rolled sleeves and open shirt make AL038(B) look less formal than the jacketed figures beside him. His camel lowers its head, extending the scene forward and downward. The army blanket beneath the saddle keeps this version visually distinct from the colourful plain-code release.

Two clues identify the figure
The shirt-sleeved rider identifies the pose; the blanket identifies the variant. King & Country’s 2012 announcement separates the B versions by their army blankets. Both clues belong in a useful collection photograph.
The rifle remains carried across the rider even though his clothing looks more relaxed. That combination of personal comfort and military equipment gives the figure much of its character.
Camel service had its own humor
The Australian War Memorial’s cameleer history describes the soldiers’ newsletters and organized camel sports. One competitor named Cyanide even won a medal in a camel trot. Such details make the relationship between men and mounts more vivid than a simple account of distances marched.
They also suit a relaxed-looking figure. Campaign life contained waiting, maintenance and attempts at amusement as well as action. A shirt-sleeved rider can invite those less familiar stories into the collection.
The downward line completes the group
Beside the more upright animals of the officer and jacketed trooper, this camel changes the height and direction of the patrol. Give its muzzle room at the front of the base so that the distinctive lowered neck is not hidden behind scenery.
I would display the three army-blanket versions together, then compare them with the original decorative trio if both are available. AL038(B) is particularly easy to confuse in a loose lot because the clothing is shared with AL038. The full code and a clear view of the saddle area keep that subtle collecting distinction intact, while the relaxed pose supplies the charm.
Release record and collecting notes
Sager’s archived AL038(B) product record lists a release date of December 2012 and a retirement date of March 2014. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
