The Operation ToyBox catalog · AL024

The familiar mounted figure has come apart in AL024. A light horseman lies on the ground while his wounded horse pitches over him, its hindquarters raised. The saddle and carried equipment remain visible, tying this dramatic pose to the living mounted subjects elsewhere in the range.

The weight of the animal

The horse occupies most of the height, while the fallen man stretches across the base beneath it. That arrangement makes the animal’s size and weight impossible to ignore. The small human figure is no longer elevated and carried by his mount.

The release description identifies both the rider’s fall and the horse’s wound. It is a designed casualty scene, rather than a portrait of a named soldier whose precise circumstances have been documented.

What the charging image leaves out

The War Memorial’s retrospective on 1917 includes the loss of horses in its account of Beersheba. Remembering the animals changes how the mounted charge is understood: the movement depended on living creatures exposed to the same battlefield.

AL024 makes that dependence visible through a particularly unstable instant. It is a sobering counterpart to the more confident silhouettes of riders advancing with rifles or bayonets.

Compare it with AL006

AL006 shows a standing man beside his dead mount. AL024 catches horse and rider in the fall itself. The distinction gives the two casualty releases different emotional and visual roles; they are not interchangeable versions of one pose.

A clear patch of ground is enough to support this set. Too many nearby figures can obscure the fallen rider, leaving the horse’s strange angle unexplained. When inspecting a loose example, look at the supporting parts, the horse’s legs and the man below, and compare their relationship with the reference image. The subject works best when its difficult moment can be seen plainly and without added spectacle.

Release record and collecting notes

Sager’s archived AL024 product record lists a release date of July 2011 and a retirement date of March 2014. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
