King & Country AL005 "Charging with Bayonet" (to the rear)

The Operation ToyBox catalog · AL005

AL005 has a different rhythm from the forward-reaching AL004. Here the rider holds his bayonet low and back, beside the horse’s flank, while his body turns above the saddle. The blade is easy to overlook until the figure is viewed from the side.

A pair with deliberately different gestures

The early catalog’s two “Charging with Bayonet” titles sound almost identical, but their silhouettes are quite distinct. AL005 has a darker brown horse and a rider whose arm draws the eye toward the rear of the animal. His rifle remains slung, leaving the bayonet as the weapon in his hand.

That backward gesture creates a small interval in a larger group: the men need not all be caught at precisely the same instant. Set slightly behind AL004, he helps a display look like several individual riders moving together.

The charge did not finish in one way for everyone

The War Memorial’s 105th-anniversary account distinguishes men who dismounted to clear trenches from those who continued toward Beersheba. It also preserves a rider’s recollection of finding an opening through the defenses.

That variety of experience is a useful backdrop for collecting varied poses. A miniature can suggest one moment in an encounter; it cannot represent everything that every man or horse did during the attack.

Give the rearward arm room

The projecting blade makes the right-hand side of the figure worth keeping visible. Crowding another horse against it hides the very feature named in the release title. The white lower-leg markings and layered saddle load reward a lower viewing angle as well.

When comparing a loose example with an online reference, check the arm and bayonet direction first. “Charging light horseman” is a broad description in this series, and the familiar slouch hat alone will not distinguish AL004, AL005 and later releases. AL005 is the early rearward-bayonet pose, with a quieter arm line and plenty of movement underneath it.

Release record and collecting notes

Sager’s archived AL005 product record lists a release date of December 2009 and a retirement date of September 2012. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
