NA009 combines a large Union-pattern colour with a bareheaded officer. The discarded headgear at his feet adds a small narrative detail beneath a flag that otherwise dominates the composition.
The pipes immediately identify NA008’s role, but the pale trousers are equally useful. This miniature shows why “Scottish regiment” and “kilted soldier” should not be treated as interchangeable descriptions.
The raised ramrod is the reason to stop at NA005. It turns a familiar redcoat into a study of the repeated work that made musket fire possible, giving a firing-line display a moment usually hidden between volleys.
The kneeling posture is the defining feature of NA002. It brings a second height to the early British infantry group and directs attention toward the relationship between a soldier’s stance and the weapon projecting beyond him.
NA001 catches a red-coated soldier with his musket held diagonally across the body. The diced cap band and pale trousers identify the visual language of K&C’s early 71st group, while the restrained pose makes him more flexible than a figure already firing.
A prone lance corporal rests his Lewis gun over sandbags in FW048. The shallow pose and projecting barrel make it a small figure with a surprisingly long footprint—and a useful subject for explaining a change in infantry firepower.
The gunner sits behind the Vickers while his assistant works close to the feed. FW033 is an unusually compact way to show the teamwork behind one of the British Army’s most important weapons.
A map in the left hand is the obvious feature of FW025. The coloured armband is the more revealing one: the original description identifies a King’s Own Scottish Borderers officer attached to the General Staff.
The prone gunner gives FW019 its low outline, but the kneeling man with binoculars explains the team. This is a compact study of observation and sustained fire, with the weapon positioned between two different jobs.
FW008 is more than a bugler with a horn. The miniature also carries a drum, turning a single marching musician into one of the most visually busy figures in the early German FW group.
