King & Country · First World War · FW008
FW008 is more than a bugler with a horn. The miniature also carries a drum, turning a single marching musician into one of the most visually busy figures in the early German FW group.

The details worth slowing down for
The bugle is raised to the mouth, the drum sits across the front, and the legs carry the figure forward. The red-and-white drum decoration breaks up the grey-green uniform. Shoulder ornaments and the instrument cord add smaller accents above it. These details reward a close view from the front quarter; straight from the side, the drum and supporting arm overlap and some of the modelling disappears.
Building a column with character
FW008 works well behind the mounted major FW005 and close to FW007’s flag. The different heights—horse, banner and drum—give the group a readable front without requiring dozens of infantry figures. Leave a little open space ahead of the musician. It lets the direction of the march register and keeps the extended instrument from colliding with another soldier’s pack.
Small parts, large effect
The bugle’s bell, the hand at the mouth and the drum fittings deserve clear photographs before purchase. A missing or bent detail can change the silhouette more than a small chip on the base. Look for consistent paint on the drum rim and cords, and check that the legs remain securely attached to the scenic base. For identification, compare both instruments with the reference; a generic “German bandsman” listing can include figures from entirely different periods.
