FW060 gives Joseph Joffre a compact, confident stance: dark tunic, red trousers, kepi, binoculars and sword. The colourful portrait belongs to the French opening-war group, but its history is more complicated than the reassuring nickname “Papa” suggests.
Angular blocks of colour cover the shield and wheels of FW057. Behind that striking finish, three German artillerymen give the set a practical subject: the coordinated work required to serve a field gun.

FW034 combines a riveted armoured body, a roof turret and a standing crew figure. The tall silhouette looks imposing, but the ordinary wheels underneath invite the more interesting question: where could this vehicle actually go?
The gunner sits behind the Vickers while his assistant works close to the feed. FW033 is an unusually compact way to show the teamwork behind one of the British Army’s most important weapons.
Two figures occupy a low, close-knit composition in FW031: a wounded soldier and a kneeling medical orderly. It brings the practical work of treatment into a collection that might otherwise show only weapons and movement.
A map in the left hand is the obvious feature of FW025. The coloured armband is the more revealing one: the original description identifies a King’s Own Scottish Borderers officer attached to the General Staff.
