Del Prado · Figure study

A wide-brimmed hat, khaki shorts and compact automatic weapon give this Gurkha corporal a distinctive tropical-service outline. The date places him in the campaign against Japan, well before the later Malayan Emergency.

Keep the two Malayan conflicts apart

The National Army Museum’s Gurkha history distinguishes the long service of Gurkhas from Nepal and the later postwar deployments in Malaya. The figure’s 1941–42 subject belongs to the Second World War. A search result about the 1948–60 Emergency may concern Gurkhas in the same region but does not establish the setting of this release.

The figure is compact and heavily equipped

The hat brim gives the head a strong horizontal line, while the shorts and wrapped lower legs create a recognisable tropical silhouette. The submachine gun held at the front changes the stance from a conventional rifle-at-shoulder pose. The weapon, hat and web equipment should be compared together when identifying an unboxed example; none alone is a complete identification.

A small display about the campaign

A roadside or modest vegetation setting suits a representative Malayan subject, with enough open space to see the weapon and hands. Avoid burying the figure in oversized jungle scenery. Check the hat brim and firearm first when buying, then the lower legs and base. This figure adds value by expanding the collection beyond European battlefields and by making the distinction between Nepalese soldiers, British Indian service and the specific wartime campaign clear.
