King & Country WS327 The Apple Thief: A Crate of Fruit in an Infantryman’s Arms

The title supplies the story

King & Country calls the figure The Apple Thief. The old product description jokes about the box falling from a truck, but it does not document where the fruit came from or whose property it was.

The catalog can preserve the title without inventing a particular farmer, village or act of consent. The scene’s interest includes that unresolved relationship between an armed soldier and civilian food.

A rural scene has more than combat in it

Placed near a gate or farmyard accessory, the figure can draw attention toward the resources an army encounters and consumes. That is a display interpretation, not a reconstruction of an identified historical event.

WS324, the soldier carrying a piglet, offers a related subject with a different physical silhouette. Each remains a separate release with its own object being carried.

For WS327, the crate and fruit are essential identifying features. A collecting photograph should show the front of the load clearly, because the story largely disappears when only the helmeted head and back are visible.

Release record and collecting notes

Sager’s archived WS327 product record lists a release date of August 2016 and a retirement date of April 2019. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability.
