Why carry a tank that can drive?

The National Army Museum’s 1944 photograph of Diamond T transporters explains the practical reason: long journeys could wear tank tracks before the vehicles reached the battlefield. A transporter helped preserve the fighting vehicle for its intended work.

That is a useful change of perspective for an armor collection. The truck and trailer represent distance, maintenance and the effort needed to keep tanks available.

Four bundles explain the suffixes

DD318-S01 adds the M26 recovery vehicle; S02 adds the Valentine; S03 adds the Normandy Sherman; and S04 adds a German armored car. Each bundle has its own catalog identity.

Knowing those suffixes prevents a loaded-trailer picture from being mistaken for the contents of the base release.

DD318’s appeal is its scale and purpose. The long deck, tractor cab and many wheels can anchor a collection around transport work rather than another firing scene.

Allow room for the full combination and inspect the tractor, trailer and driver separately in a secondhand listing. The most useful question is what actually belongs to the offered code, particularly when photographs contain additional vehicles from the wider collection.

Sager’s archived DD318 product record lists a release date of April 2019 and a retirement date of October 2024. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
