The Operation ToyBox catalog · WS189

The officer in WS189 stands with his hands behind his back, a long green coat and bright red collar accents framing his face. The pose is reserved, but this release has an unusually useful catalog story: its surviving names do not all agree.

SS in one heading, Wehrmacht in another

Sager’s page title calls him an SS Inspecting Officer, while the description identifies a Wehrmacht Inspecting Officer. An April 2011 dealer announcement uses the SS name; the March 2014 retirement list uses Wehrmacht.

This entry follows the later Wehrmacht identification and records the earlier label for search purposes. The WS product prefix is not enough by itself to establish that every subject in the range belongs to the SS.

The coat does much of the visual work

The long garment produces a broad, uninterrupted shape below the belt. Its red facings draw attention upward, while the peaked cap and pale collar surround the head.

With the hands behind the back, the front remains uncluttered. That gives the officer a different presence from the armed guard and stopping trooper released around him.

An observer in the checkpoint group

The manufacturer describes a veteran officer surveying the situation. WS187 supplies the active stopping gesture and WS188 the younger rifle guard; this figure adds a more stationary observer.

The set does not identify a named general or a particular inspection. The coat and posture should not be used to invent a personal identity that the release record does not provide.

Why naming matters in a searchable catalog

Both historical labels may appear in secondhand listings. Comparing the full WS189 code with the photograph is more reliable than rejecting an example solely because the seller uses the older wording.

The miniature belongs in the retrospective both as a distinctive long-coated officer and as a reminder that product names can change during a release’s life.

Release record and collecting notes

Sager’s archived WS189 product record lists a release date of May 2011 and a retirement date of March 2014. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
