The Operation ToyBox catalog · WS174

A bandaged grenadier walks beside a medic in WS174. The wounded man’s arm is supported in a sling and his head is dressed, while the taller escort stays close at his shoulder. It is a quieter form of evacuation than the shoulder carry shown in WS172.

Clothing makes the two roles readable

The casualty’s camouflage trousers and open-looking upper clothing contrast with the medic’s long plain coat. Pale dressings and the medic’s armband create conspicuous details without requiring an elaborate base.

The pair’s close spacing is important. The medic is an escort in the release description, and the figures’ relationship makes more sense when they appear to be walking together rather than facing unrelated directions.

Different wounds, different journeys

Within the same release group, WS170 depicts a dead man, WS172 a carried casualty and WS174 a man able to walk with assistance. Those are different subjects, not interchangeable ways of adding a casualty to a diorama.

A historical collection becomes more informative when it preserves such distinctions. Evacuation involved people in very different conditions, and the miniature’s visible dressings should not be turned into an invented diagnosis or a claim about a named patient.

A route toward the rear

Place the pair where they can move away from the active infantry. A road edge, a gap between positions or a nearby medical scene can provide a destination without crowding the figures.

The plain coat helps the medic remain visible beside a group rich in camouflage. From a collector’s viewpoint, the sling, head bandage and supporting relationship are the details to compare with the reference photograph. WS174 broadens the 12th SS Normandy group through a scene of care, while the formation’s historical affiliation remains part of the label. It adds a different pace and a different task to a shelf otherwise dominated by weapons and movement toward the fighting.

Release record and collecting notes

Sager’s archived WS174 product record lists a release date of September 2010 and a retirement date of October 2012. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
