The Operation ToyBox catalog · WS166
WS166 gathers three crouching and kneeling figures around an MG42. The gun projects through the middle of the group, with the men’s different headgear, equipment and postures preventing the crew from becoming a single block of camouflage.

Read it as a team
The release contains three men, rather than an isolated machine gunner. Their positions bring the eye toward the weapon and then back toward the supporting figures. The ammunition container near the ground adds another part of the working scene.
A low viewing angle is helpful here. It keeps the barrel separate from the camouflage behind it and makes the relationship between the men easier to understand. From directly above, the overlapping equipment can hide the carefully arranged group.
The manufacturing story behind the MG42
The Royal Armouries’ MG42 study explains the use of pressed steel components to reduce manufacturing time compared with the MG34. The weapon’s story therefore includes industrial production as well as its battlefield role.
That is an interesting historical angle for a small crew set. Behind a recognizable gun silhouette lay factories, machines and the effort to produce equipment in large numbers during a long war.
The Normandy release group
WS166 sits among King & Country’s 2010 subjects for the 12th SS Panzer Division in Normandy. The division’s identity is part of the historical setting, including its service to the Nazi regime and its crimes against prisoners; the model’s camouflage and equipment do not stand apart from that history.
For display, give the gun a clear line beyond the bases and leave room to see all three men. Nearby riflemen can extend the position without obscuring the crew. When comparing a loose set, count the figures and check the gun and ammunition details against the reference. The interest of WS166 is the coordinated group, with each man contributing a different shape and task.
Release record and collecting notes
Sager’s archived WS166 product record lists a release date of September 2010 and a retirement date of June 2013. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
