King & Country AL108 Trooper Mounting Up (Brown Horse)

The Operation ToyBox catalog · AL108

AL108 shows the trooper reaching for the saddle of a brown horse, with the rifle slung across his back and his body still beside the animal. The rearward reference view is particularly useful: it reveals how the equipment and raised arms fit around the saddle.

A deliberate companion to AL106

The manufacturer’s description identifies AL108 as the same figure as AL106 with a different horse colour. This is a real release distinction, rather than a guessed gap in the numbering.

The brown coat gives the scene a warmer appearance, while the dark mane, tail and pale lower-leg markings provide contrast. A collection that includes both versions can vary the animals without losing the shared activity of preparing to ride.

The view behind the rider

Many mounted miniatures are photographed primarily from the front or side, where the face is easiest to see. Here the back of the man is informative: the slung rifle and carried equipment show what he brings with him as he reaches up.

That makes the release rewarding to view from more than one angle. The horse and trooper should be arranged so the arms and saddle remain readable, rather than allowing the animal’s body to hide the whole movement.

A scene before the journey

The War Memorial’s horse-line photograph by Frank Hurley records soldiers tending their mounts near an oasis. It provides a useful historical counterpoint to the collection’s action subjects: preparing and caring for the animals was part of the campaign itself.

I would use AL108 beside a man already mounted, or within a small group preparing to move. The different stages give the scene a natural sequence. Keep the full code with the photograph when comparing the brown and black versions; a listing headed only “Mounting Up” may not specify which one is offered. The appeal is a quiet, recognizable piece of horsemanship given its own place in the catalog.

Release record and collecting notes

King & Country’s AL108 release reference identifies this model without giving a release or retirement date on the linked page. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
