The Operation ToyBox catalog · AL056
AL056 has a collecting story built into its origin. A sandy open staff car, marked with a red crescent-and-star roundel and driven by a man in a fez, grew out of an Australian collector’s repaint of an earlier King & Country vehicle.

From a private idea to the catalog
In the September 2013 release announcement, King & Country explained that a collector had converted the appearance of its First World War German staff car for a Middle Eastern setting. The company liked the idea and produced an official version, making adjustments and adding a new Turkish driver.
It is a pleasing example of the conversation between a manufacturer and its collectors. A display idea became something that other collectors could add under its own release code.
Look inside the open body
The reference image shows the driver behind a divided windscreen, with a textured brown rear seat and a spare wheel carried along the side. Lamps, slender wheels and the long bonnet give the car a very different outline from the military vehicles of the Second World War ranges.
The crescent-and-star marking is particularly important to the identity of this version. The sandy paint alone is not enough to distinguish an official release from a privately repainted example of the earlier vehicle.
A headquarters gains a means of travel
Beside the caped commander or a standing officer, the car suggests arrivals, departures and work away from the immediate fighting. It also introduces motor transport into a range whose title naturally puts horses first.
I would keep the passenger compartment visible rather than hiding it behind a wall or a dense group of figures. When looking at a secondhand example, compare the driver, lamps, windscreen and spare wheel with the reference. The appeal of AL056 is both visual and historical within the hobby: it records a collector’s imaginative contribution becoming an official King & Country release.
Release record and collecting notes
Sager’s archived AL056 product record lists a release date of September 2013 and a retirement date of July 2021. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
