The Operation ToyBox catalog · AL055
A dark cap, long cape and bright red lining give AL055 a theatrical presence. The officer stands upright, his expression and clothing supplying the drama instead of a sweeping action pose. This commander has a screen connection that is part of the release’s own story.
The inspiration was a movie character
The manufacturer’s September 2013 announcement describes the caped Turkish commander as inspired by José Ferrer’s officer in Lawrence of Arabia. The figure therefore carries a cinematic influence rather than being presented as an authenticated portrait of a named historical commander.
That is useful context for an AL collection. The range includes subjects drawn from the broader popular image of the Middle East campaign as well as particular uniforms, units and military equipment.
Keep AL054 and AL055 straight
Early descriptive text circulates with these two officers’ codes transposed. The dealer title and reference photograph used here identify AL055 as the caped Turkish commander. AL054 is the pistol-armed German officer in tropical clothing.
The figures are easy to tell apart visually. One is upright and wrapped in a cape; the other has exposed lower legs, a neck cloth and an active pistol pose. Preserve the picture with the code when recording a loose example.
A dramatic center for a small group
The red lining makes the commander visible against a sandy staff car or pale infantry uniforms. I would place him where the front of the cape remains open to the viewer, with a little space around his shoulders.
He suits a display that explores the relationship between films and toy soldiers, or an Ottoman command grouping with the inspiration clearly labeled. AL055 is enjoyable precisely because its source of character can be discussed honestly: the sculpt borrows a memorable screen presence, while the surrounding articles supply the real campaign history.
Release record and collecting notes
Sager’s archived AL055 product record lists a release date of September 2013 and a retirement date of September 2020. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
