The Operation ToyBox catalog · AL054
The officer in AL054 wears a light tropical uniform and neck cloth, with a pistol raised and the other arm bent above him. The warm-coloured headgear and exposed lower legs distinguish him from the pale-uniformed Ottoman riflemen. His nationality is German, even though the release belongs to the Australian Light Horse range.
An identification wrinkle worth knowing
The dealer’s AL054 title and photograph identify this pistol-armed German figure. The early release prose for AL054 and AL055 circulates with the two descriptions reversed, including in the September 2013 announcement.
For this catalog entry, the code follows the German figure shown here. The caped Turkish commander is recorded separately as AL055. This is a case where checking the actual image is more helpful than copying an old descriptive paragraph.
German involvement was part of the campaign
The U.S. Army’s study of deception in the Palestine campaign describes German advisers and combat troops supporting the Ottoman army, as well as German commanders within the theater’s higher organization.
That provides the setting for a German officer among Ottoman subjects. The miniature does not establish a named identity or a precise unit for this individual, so those details should remain open.
A lively contrast beside the staff car
The pistol and raised arm give him more movement than the caped commander. Near AL056’s staff car, he can suggest a moment of urgency interrupting a command scene. The light uniform also keeps him visible beside the sandy vehicle.
Leave room around the projecting pistol when arranging or photographing the figure. His strongest collecting interest is the combination of an unusual theater uniform and a useful catalog correction: the AL initials describe a range, while the figure itself represents a German officer serving within the wider Ottoman war effort.
Release record and collecting notes
Sager’s archived AL054 product record lists a release date of September 2013 and a retirement date of September 2020. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
