The Operation ToyBox catalog · AL016
The rider of AL016 has brought his rifle to his shoulder while remaining in the saddle. Beneath him, a brown horse moves forward, its white facial marking and lower-leg details standing out against the darker coat. The two directions—horse moving, man aiming—make the sculpt lively from more than one angle.

A demanding-looking moment
The rifle runs across the space above the horse’s neck rather than lying slung behind the rider. The man’s arms are occupied with the weapon, while the saddle equipment and reins remain part of the surrounding detail.
Seen next to a bayonet-carrying rider, AL016 changes the story immediately. The posture is concentrated and deliberate, even though the animal beneath him is in motion. The sculpt asks the viewer to notice the relationship between a steady aim and an unsteady platform.
Mounted mobility and dismounted combat
The War Memorial’s gallery account of the Light Horse explains that the men usually fought dismounted, combining infantry skills with the mobility supplied by their mounts. This mounted firing pose therefore represents a particular action image, not a summary of their normal fighting method.
That distinction is useful when showing the collection to someone new to the subject. Horses did not make every Light Horse operation a cavalry charge, and a single dramatic pose should not be mistaken for a complete tactical description.
Let the weapon stay visible
A slightly open position at the edge of a mounted group suits him well. Another horse directly alongside can obscure the rifle and the rider’s hands, leaving the most distinctive part of the release hidden.
AL016 also makes a good comparison with a dismounted rifleman: the equipment is familiar, but the physical circumstances are different. It is an appealing early release because that contrast can be understood without a long label. The figure gives a collector a clear visual question to explore, while the wider history supplies the answer.
Release record and collecting notes
Sager’s archived AL016 product record lists a release date of December 2010 and a retirement date of November 2013. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
