The Operation ToyBox catalog · AL019
AL019 carries one of the strongest blocks of colour in the early AL series. A large red flag rises beside an Ottoman officer, its white crescent and star visible above the infantry. The officer’s other arm extends a pistol, making the banner part of an active pose rather than a static parade scene.

A flag that changes the balance of a collection
Mounted Australians naturally draw the eye through their size and movement. This release gives the opposing group a tall focal point of its own. The broad flag surface, upright pole and spreading cloth stand well above the comparatively compact figure.
The pose works even with only two or three neighboring infantrymen. Their lower heads and rifles lead toward the flag, while the officer’s extended arm supplies a second direction through the group.
A surviving flag from Beersheba
The Australian War Memorial holds a red Ottoman flag with a white crescent and star removed from a Turkish headquarters at Beersheba by William Arthur Prentice on 31 October 1917. Its surviving cotton cloth makes the national symbol a tangible part of the campaign record.
AL019 is not identified as the bearer of that particular flag. The museum object is a useful comparison for the emblem and its historical setting, while the model remains a separately designed officer figure.
Keep the earlier code distinct
The AL range later returned to the subject of an Ottoman officer with a flag. Retain AL019 with its photograph when recording this early release, and compare the stance and flag shape if a seller uses only a generic title.
For display, an uncluttered background allows the white emblem to remain clear. For condition, the flag edge and pole are more revealing than a distant group shot. This figure adds identity, height and colour to the Ottoman side of the catalog, giving it a visual presence equal to the more numerous mounted subjects.
Release record and collecting notes
Sager’s archived AL019 product record lists a release date of December 2010 and a retirement date of September 2013. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
