King & Country AL007B Flagbearer with Squadron Guidon

The Operation ToyBox catalog · AL007B

The first thing to catch the eye on AL007B is the blue guidon, carried high above the rider and marked with a large letter A. Below it, the horse steps forward under a substantial saddle load. A small area of strong colour changes the appearance of an entire mounted group.

The suffix belongs with the flag

AL007B records the early mounted flagbearer with a squadron guidon. It should stay distinct from AL007A, the other early flagbearing release. A short auction title that drops the final letter can conceal a meaningful difference between the flags.

The blue cloth and conspicuous lettering are the most useful clues in the reference photograph. Preserve those details in the collection record, rather than assuming every mounted Australian flagbearer is the same release.

Guidons and unit identity

The Australian Army’s account of honourable insignia notes that Light Horse regiments received permission to carry guidons in 1913. Its discussion concerns regimental ceremonial traditions; the squadron flag named by this model should not automatically be treated as the same kind of formal regimental standard.

That distinction makes a good conversation starter. Flags can identify units, convey pride and provide a focal point, but their precise use and status depend on the particular flag and setting. A miniature’s title is a starting point for that history, not proof that the depicted flag was present in a particular charge.

A vertical accent in a horizontal display

Most charging horses direct attention along the shelf. This figure takes the eye upward, providing a natural marker within the group. I would keep the flag clear of a wall or tall scenic backdrop so its shape remains easy to read.

The horse’s pace is also useful beside more extended charging poses. AL007B adds a recognizable unit symbol and a change of height without requiring another large scenic element. For condition checks, the pole, flag edge and rider’s raised hand deserve a close look.

Release record and collecting notes

Sager’s archived AL007B product record lists a release date of December 2009 and a retirement date of September 2013. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
