The Operation ToyBox catalog · AL044
AL044 stretches almost horizontally across its base: a prone Australian rifleman, slouch hat low over his face, with a fixed bayonet extending the weapon’s line. It brings the Light Horse collection down from saddle height to the ground where much of its fighting took place.

A period photograph offers a useful comparison
The Australian War Memorial preserves a photograph of B Squadron, 9th Australian Light Horse Regiment, taken during the Second Battle of Gaza on 19 April 1917. Its men lie spaced apart in short grass.
The photograph is historical context for the prone subject, rather than a claim that King & Country copied one of its individuals. It makes a useful companion to the miniature because it shows how a mounted unit could appear in a firing line with no horses in the immediate view.
A long outline with a small vertical profile
The rifle and bayonet project forward from the figure, extending an already low composition. The slouch hat’s brim and plume remain visible, helping preserve the Australian identity even though the body is largely flattened against the ground.
Look along the base from a low quarter angle. The arms, rifle stock and head become clearer than in a steep view from above, where the figure can disappear into the surface beneath it.
A collecting detail that is easy to miss
AL043 is the standing firing figure in the neighbouring sequence. AL044 is the lying figure. The similar titles make this an important distinction when browsing short listings or older catalog photographs.
The image here shows the prone sculpt, including the projecting bayonet. Check that area carefully in condition photographs, together with the hat detail and the edges of the base.
Build depth with different heights
A prone figure can sit in front of kneeling and standing subjects without obscuring their faces. A modest patch of low ground gives AL044 a setting; tall vegetation can hide precisely the details that distinguish him.
Alongside the mounted releases, he helps tell the fuller AL story. The collection gains a dismounted fighting subject with a markedly different shape from the riders above him.
Release record and collecting notes
Sager’s archived AL044 product record lists a release date of October 2012 and a retirement date of October 2020. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
