The Operation ToyBox catalog · DD223
The small turret, narrow gun and busy rear stowage give DD223 a character of its own. A British commander looks out above the hatch, while a yellow diamond and British markings distinguish this Stuart from the American-painted release that followed.

An American design in British service
The U.S. Veterans Memorial Museum’s Stuart history describes the American light-tank family’s supply to Britain and the Commonwealth and its development through the M3A1 and M3A3.
The smaller vehicle’s reconnaissance theme offers a different story from a medium tank confronting enemy armour. In this model, the projecting commander and the compact turret make observation as visually prominent as the gun.
A brigade number to correct
The archived announcement identifies the 7th Armoured Division but calls its brigade the 52nd. That number should not be carried forward as a reliable formation attribution.
The National Army Museum’s Sale Collection history records the 22nd Armoured Brigade with the 7th Armoured Division, and IWM’s wartime film catalog retains that association in its north-west Europe records. The catalog keeps the documented Desert Rats theme while flagging the sales-copy discrepancy.
Small tank, plenty to examine
- The yellow diamond on the turret and British vehicle markings.
- The half-body commander above the hatch.
- The narrow 37 mm gun identified in the release description.
- The bundles and boxes distributed across the rear.
A useful scale comparison
Beside a Cromwell or Sherman, DD223 gives the collection a noticeably smaller tracked vehicle. Its lower hull and compact turret make the difference readable without a list of specifications.
Keep the British markings and original commander associated with the code. They are the details that give this particular Stuart its place in the D-Day range.
Release record and collecting notes
Sager’s archived DD223 product record lists a release date of September 2013 and a retirement date of May 2020. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
