The Operation ToyBox catalog · DD199

DD199 raises a grenade in one hand while turning his body into the pose. The lifted arm opens the silhouette above the waist, creating a different shape from the riflemen around him.

A small object with a long historical association

The archived announcement identifies the grenade as a Mills bomb. The release captures the moment before a throw, with the arm raised and the body still visibly connected to the ground through a wide stance.

The article records that sculpted action without adding handling instructions or pretending the pose identifies a particular engagement.

The webbing follows the twist

The pale straps and pouches are especially effective here because they reveal how the torso turns. Their lines lead across the brown uniform toward the raised arm.

The face looks away from the centre of the base, extending the scene into the surrounding empty space. That makes a little room on the figure’s open side more useful than elaborate scenery pressed against him.

Raiding involved more than individual action

The Royal Museums Greenwich presentation of the Saint-Nazaire plan shows how a commando operation depended on a larger combination of ships, objectives and coordinated parties.

DD199 is an anonymous action figure, not a named participant in that raid. Setting him within the broader history helps prevent one dramatic gesture from becoming the whole story of commando service.

A different line among rifles

DD193 and DD194 establish long horizontal weapon lines. The grenadier breaks that repetition with a raised hand and more open upper body.

For a compact group, that is a useful change: figures can share the same clothing and campaign theme while remaining visually distinct. DD199 belongs in the collection as the gesture that expands the group’s shape upward and outward, especially when seen from a gentle front-quarter angle.

Release record and collecting notes

Sager’s archived DD199 product record lists a release date of July 2013 and a retirement date of February 2022. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
