The Operation ToyBox catalog · DD195

The front view of DD195 shows a man listening and holding a pistol low. Turn him around and the large radio set becomes the main feature, with its aerial extending well above his head.

One figure shown from two sides

The saved reference image combines front and rear views of the same operator. It is not a two-man set. That second angle is particularly useful because the equipment defining his job sits behind him.

The archive identifies a British backpack radio and a Browning pistol, but does not supply a radio model number. This entry keeps that equipment description at the level the record supports.

Communication grew with the commandos’ role

The National Army Museum’s account notes that later commando training placed greater emphasis on working with larger formations and calling for supporting fire. Communication was part of that broader role.

The miniature does not tell us what message is being received. Its value is in making the act of communication visible among the more obvious firing and advancing poses.

The rear view deserves a place in the display

Placing the operator flat against a wall hides the radio. A quarter turn lets the viewer see the pack’s outline as well as the hand raised toward the face.

The long aerial adds height but is a small projecting detail, so it is worth checking closely in photographs of a secondhand example. The pistol, hand and pack fittings also help establish whether the sculpt is complete.

A conversation beyond the base

Beside an officer, DD195 can suggest information being passed between the radio and the men nearby. He can also work alone, with the unseen person at the other end supplying the implied second participant.

That makes this release a useful change of pace. It expands the commando group through a support activity, and rewards the collector who looks at the backs of figures as carefully as their fronts.

Release record and collecting notes

Sager’s archived DD195 product record lists a release date of July 2013 and a retirement date of July 2022. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
