The Operation ToyBox catalog · DD196

DD196 crouches low with his Thompson angled across the space between his knees. His head turns outward, giving the pose an alert quality without raising the weapon to the shoulder.

The rank is part of the sculpt’s character

The archived announcement identifies a senior NCO, and the sleeve markings contribute to that identity. The figure is not simply a smaller-height version of DD191’s standing sergeant.

His bent body gathers the pale webbing, hands and weapon into a tight central area. The knitted cap and visible face remain above that cluster, keeping the human expression readable.

A pause that can connect other figures

A crouching man can appear to wait, watch or prepare to move. The archive supplies the broad ready posture, but does not tell us a particular order he has just received.

Next to DD195, the pose can suggest attention to a radio message. Near DD197, it can form a visual contrast between a stationary low figure and a man edging forward.

Keep the equipment separate in the view

From too high an angle, the Thompson can disappear against the dark folds of the uniform. A lower front-quarter view lets its wooden stock and barrel stand apart from the knees.

The ground around the base also matters. Dense foliage immediately in front can conceal the low-held weapon and remove one of the figure’s defining features.

The commando image at a quieter moment

The D-Day catalog includes landing, movement, command and support subjects as well as overt combat. This figure adds a moment of readiness to the commando group.

Its collecting appeal is the concentration of detail in a compact pose: rank markings, headgear, webbing and Thompson all remain visible in a small footprint. It is especially useful when a display needs variation in height rather than another standing figure.

Release record and collecting notes

Sager’s archived DD196 product record lists a release date of July 2013 and a retirement date of February 2022. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
